EPA Regulations for Renovation, Repair & Painting 

This is the regulation that went into effect on April 22, 2010 and requires any persons compensated for working on a pre-1978 home to be trained and certified by the EPA or state authority before performing work on pre-1978 housing.  These companies must assume their work involves lead paint and must follow "Lead Safe Work Practices".  They can also test the surface areas to be disturbed to see if lead is actually present.  If no lead is present, they can proceed using standard construction methods.
